Durban – The eThewkini community does not have adequate compression supplies for other plumbing fixtures, which means certain burst pipes, leaks and broken water meters cannot be repaired.

The approval by the community was announced during a written response to questions from DA Council Billy Mzamo under Rule 27 of the Rules of Procedure.

The city replied to a question about why the shops did not have sufficient materials: “The reasons for keeping the compression fittings in stock were that the WS.7020 contract was declared not awarded because all the submissions received were technically not responded.

“The reasons for outsourcing copper / brass fittings were that the validity of the offer on the national Covid-19 blocking had expired and could not be extended, and the offer was also declared not awarded.”
